SUMMARY:Kill it and leave this town - a film screening with Q&a with the director
DESCRIPTION:Beetroots Collective (https://beetroots.org) in collaboration with Sharmanka Kinetic Theatre\, presents the Scottish premiere of ‘Kill It and Leave This Town’ directed by Mariusz Wilczyński\, professor of animation at the Lodz Film School in Poland.\nEmerging on the festival circuit in 2021\, this feature-length animation won major prizes at the Viennale\, Ottawa and Annecy festivals as well as in Poland. The Guardian’s Peter Bradshaw selected it as one of his “should have been a contender” animations for the Oscars in 2021. The New York Times referred to Wilczyński as “one of the most important artists of contemporary art-house animation”. Wilczyński worked on ‘Kill It and Leave this Town’ for 14 years.\nA deeply touching\, family story set in 1970’s Poland\, the film explores personal loss and draws you in to a land of memories where time stands still. It is a dark\, satirical and psychological horror film which may appeal to fans of Otto Dix\, Samuel Beckett\, Jan Švankmajer and the Neue Sachlichkeit. Polish-speaking audiences may recognise the voices of the Polish film industry elite: K. Janda\, B. Kraftówna\, A. Wajda\, A. Chyra\, A. Dymna\, M. Kondrat\, D. Olbrychski and many more. With a soundtrack provided by the late composer Tadeusz Nalepa\, the music creates a piercingly sad mood and a raw\, intense atmosphere which makes use of rock-guitar riffs from the ’70s Polish band Breakout.\nRating: 18 (suitable only for persons of 18 years or over)\nRunning time: 88 mins.\nGenre: Animation\nLanguage: Polish with English subtitles\nTrigger warnings: disturbing images\, sex\, nudity\, domestic abuse\, moderate references to violence\, discriminatory language\, mild drug references.\nDoors open: 6:45pm\nEvent starts: 7:00pm (no late admittance)\nThe film will be followed by a Q&A with Mariusz Wilczyński (via video link).\nBeetroots Collective (https://beetroots.org) is an organisation led by a group of diverse artists and creatives aiming to promote Eastern European culture in Scotland. SUMMARY:Our Streets - Projections event in Edinburgh
DESCRIPTION:Following the successful street event “Where will the flight take us?” Beetroots Collective has been developing another community art project. \nOur Streets’ is a multimedia project about Active Travel and reclaiming urban spaces for pedestrian use. Award winning artists -Marta Adamowicz and Robert Motyka (Beetroots Collective CIC) – in association with Causey Development Trust and Sustrans have worked with the local community to create a stunning spectacle of outdoor projections at The Causey square. \nThey have organised linocutting workshops where participants created artwork about their favourite forms of active travel and landscapes they like to travel to. The participants’ artwork has then been turned into a short animation that will be displayed on the building of The Causey at 8 pm on the 8th of March. \nThe event will run in association with Causey Development Trust\, Southside Community Centre\, Edinburgh Critical Mass\, Infra Sisters\, Na Przełaj\, Living Streets and Buccleuch Free Church turning it into a splendid celebration culminating in a short Sing-a-long version of the song ‘Our Streets’ by Dan Abrahams. \n* \nWhat is active travel? (source) \nActive travel means getting about in a way that makes you physically active\, like walking or cycling. It usually means short journeys\, like walking to the shops or local school\, cycling to work or to see friends and family\, or cycling to the train station. Many journeys people make using cars are under 5 miles\, so there’s real potential to swap the car for walking and cycling. \nEncouraging more active travel has become a really important priority for cities as it brings lots of benefits – in terms of improved public health and air quality\, increased road safety\, better street life\, and reduced carbon emissions.

SUMMARY:Fenomen - film screening in Glasgow
DESCRIPTION:Wstęp bezpłatny biletowany\nFilm w wersji polskiej z angielskimi napisami!\nKilka tygodni temu miał miejsce 32. finał Wielkiej Orkiestry Świątecznej Pomocy. Dir. M. Kowalczyk\nFebruary 24 th\, Saturday\, at 6 p.m.\nSikorski Polish Club\, 5 Parkgrove Terrace\, Glasgow G3 7SD\n\nfree admission – ticketed\nPolish dialogue with English subtitles\nA few weeks ago\, the 32nd final of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity took place. Thanks to the Volunteers scattered all over the world\, WOŚP managed to collect a gigantic amount again to support Polish pulmonology.\nThe event has been a part of the life of the Polish community in Scotland for many years\, organizing itself to act in accordance with the idea of reaching the end of the world and one step further.\nThis year\, we are celebrating the 32nd finale of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity in Glasgow with the screening of a documentary in which Jurek Owsiak\, in an honest conversation\, reveals how the idea of the Orchestra was born and what the beginnings of its activity were like. The film presents the history of these 30 years\, not avoiding difficult topics of brutal hate and the death of the president of Gdańsk\, Paweł Adamowicz. It also shows Owsiak’s transformation – from a carefree hippie into the leader of a huge civic movement and one of the symbols of free Poland. You will also learn what went on behind the scenes of transferring the idea of Przystanek Woodstock to Poland\, which became one of the largest music festivals in Europe.\nThe screening is an excellent opportunity to celebrate the idea of WOŚP and learn about its history\, but also to meet representatives of Scottish staffs and get involved in next year’s activities.\nFilm programmer: Agnieszka Koperniak\nSponsoring Manager: Monika Steć\nEvent host: Sikorski Polish Club\nCo-organizer: Beetroots Collective
